When in Copenhagen, there are several fun things you can do ranging from festivals to partying in the city’s several cultural and entertainment spots. It is a 24 hour city that has many events and visitors can catch them at various halls and theatres across the city. Some of the popular venues include Bellevue Teatret, the recently opened Copenhagen Opera House and many more. To catch big festivals, one needs to be in the city from June through to August.

Here is Copenhagen’s Events and Festivals Calendar for 2010/ 2011.

January

  • New Year’s Flea Market- mid-January. It is the first market of the year and people get a chance to buy a range of locally made handcrafts at fantastic bargain prices.

February

  • International Fashion Fair- mid-February showcases the latest fashion designs, glamorous model, catwalk shows and fantastic fashion accessories on display for sale.
  • Copenhagen Fashion Festival- mid-February, it is a fashion event with activities like styling and make-up.
  • International Boat Show- late February to early March events that takes place at the Bella Center of Copenhagen. It is a place you can see classic and expensive yachts.

March

  • Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition- It is an art exhibition that takes place around mid-March at the Royal Danish Academy of Art and brings together several local artists.
  • Natflim Festivalen (Night Film Festival) – late March to early April festival. It is a huge occasion boasting an attendance of over 45,000 festival-goers.

April

  • Easter Flea Market-mid-April, it is an Easter weekend event.

May

  • Green Mermaid Festival- mid-May, it is a four days event. The city usually celebrates its strong commitment to environmental conservation.
  • Copenhagen Carnival – mid-May, it is full of events like street entertainment and samba dancing during the Whitsunday weekend
  • Swingin’ Copenhagen – late May, jazz is played in a number of public squares, clubs and parks across the city.
  • Copenhagen Marathon – late May, brings together several Danish athletes, upcoming and professional. They compete in a race, which starts and ends at the Vester Volgade.

June

  • Midsummer Eve – this is a fireworks and bonfires event that takes place on June 23rd at Faelledparken.
  • Danish derby – late June, it’s the country’s biggest horse race held at Klampenborg.
  • Forum Copenhagen – June to August with several trade shows, exhibitions, conferences and a number of shows that take place. It’s a 24 hour family event held at Julius Thomsens Plads.

July

  • Roskildefestivalen – early July, it is the world’s largest rock festival and attracts thousands of concert-goers from all over the world.
  • Copenhagen Jazz Festival – mid-July, it’s a huge blues event with many concerts being performed for 2 weeks.
  • Copenhagen Summer Festival – late July to early August, performances of classical music at the charlottenborg Ceremonial Hall

August

  • Copenhagen Summer Baroque – mid – August, a three day classical music feast
  • Fashion Fair – Mid-August, a four day international fashion fair that takes place at the Bella Centre.

September

  • Golden Days in Copenhagen – early September, Several traditional events taking place in the city and performances at Royal Theatre.
  • Kulturbro – mid-September to mid-December, a biennial event held to celebrate the city’s art and culture.
  • Art Copenhagen – late September, its an impressive event and one of the earth’s most important art-related trade fairs.
  • International film Festival – late September, it is one of the leading mobile events and sees many European films being screened.

October

  • Healthy Lifestyle Show – mid-October, hundreds of health and fitness industry exhibitors come out to showcase their work.
  • Night of Culture –mid-October, attracts over 100,000 visitors who come to enjoy a night filled with fun in museum, art galleries and theatres.

November

  • Antiques and International Coin Fair – early November, collectors meet at the Copenhagen forum to get a wide range of yesteryear’s coins and jewelry.
  • Irish Festival – early November, a host of traditional Gaelic music, food and whisky, and dancing.
  • Copenhagen Autumn Jazz – throughout November, a series of jazz concerts held at many venues since the 1990s.
  • Dansescenen – early November, attracts several dancers from the Scandinavian countries to who come to perform.

December

  • Christmas Flea Market – early December displays a range of Danish handcrafts and stocking fillers.
  • Copenhagen Masters – throughout December, major badminton tournaments held at Cirkusbygningen (Cirkus Building).
